I was actually was checking out another piece of furniture when I spotted this very cool antique washstand.
I liked the piece I went to see, but it was this piece that I chose to buy.
This cute washstand was just unique with its tall back and amazing hardware.
Plus it was SUPER OLD judging by its dovetailing and likely dated back to the period of 1890-1910…
I just HAD to make her over 
I loved it.
Solid wood, larger, sturdy….I had never seen a washstand quite like this one and believe me…I’ve seen ALOT.
That side door would not close when I first bought it so I did have to take it off and sand it down quite a bit with my orbital sander so that I could reattach it and make it so it would close…
a little fiddling and faddling and she was ready to go!
I knew I wanted to use Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint although I was torn on the color.
My milk paint stash was low so I wanted to use up some of the colors I had.
I considered my options and at the last second, decided to try a combo of grey milk paints.
I mixed up some Milk Paint in Trophy and painted on the first two coats in this color.
I then added in some Schloss as I needed more coats … the wood was fairly raw and initially the paint went on more like a stain then a paint soaking deeply into the wood.
I needed more coats so Schloss it was!
I really thought I wouldn’t have any chipping as the wood was fairly raw, but I was so wrong!
I had sanded well to prep this piece as I was out of Bonding Agent and I wanted to be sure the paint would adhere well which initially I thought it did.
When I was finished painting and began to soft and my piece, I discovered I was wrong on my prediction.
The paint chipped and flaked off in many places on this washstand.
I was kinda frustrated at first, but then chose to love it and embrace it.
What’s the worst that could happen I thought…it wouldn’t sell and I would have to keep it?
That would be so tough 
The chipping seemed to be finished and all loose pieces removed so I sealed it up in Hemp Oil….although I would advise anyone else to use a poly or MMS Tough Coat to stop further chipping.
I was certain all would be fine in this case.
I polished up that cool hardware and finished making her look pretty…
how did I do?
I think she looks fine for her age…don’t you?
I didn’t want a new looking piece, but one that looks perfect in all her antique glory.
Milk paint did just that!
